Save Your Skin ( What You Want To Know Wednesdays)

Summer is here; which means backyard barbeques, pool parties, beach trips, and sunburns. Several companies make sunscreen products that spray on and are easy to apply on the go, but sometimes we just forget. It’s easy to forget to re-apply sunscreen while you’re having fun. If you get sunburn use these tips for quick relief.

  1. Get out of the sun – Cover up and find some shade.
  2. Cool down your skin – If you’re near a cool pool, or cool water, take a quick dip to cool down. Do not prolong your exposure. Hop in and hop out. You can also use ice packs wrapped in a towel – never apply ice directly to the skin.
  3. Get the aloe – Aloe Vera can help soothe a burn.
  4. Moisturize while skin is damp – Use a gentle non scented lotion (not petroleum or oil based ) to rehydrate the skin.
  5. Decrease inflammation – Taking an anti-inflammatory drug can help with discomfort or inflammation. Make sure to consult a health professional to make sure you can take anti-inflammatory medication.
  6. Rehydrate your body – Sunburns can leave you dehydrated, make sure to drink lots of water to rehydrate.
